Scope of Career Highlight Assignments
- Wrote personnel handbook, revamped salary and bonus administration program, hired most staff, tested qualified plan compliance, developed unique but simple team profit sharing bonus that increased visibility of employee benefits, promoted team spirit and minimized misunderstandings about Todd's fiscal progress.
- Have worked with labor in union and non-union environments and participated in a successful management effort to prevent unionization of our Indianapolis operation. (Stanley Compo-Cast, 100 employees)
- Developed a complete wage and salary administration program for the Alberox Corporation. (125 employees)
- Served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President in consecutive years as an officer of Starmount Forest Country Club's Board of Directors. Personally negotiated the club management firm's incentive contract. Designed and communicated a $2.1 million capital assessment (losing only 15 members).
- While at Compute!, my direct reports included purchasing, warehouse and distribution, customer service and personnel.
- Negotiated lease, developed floor plan, coordinated move, approved all finishes and work surfaces for existing office space for Todd.
- Established vendor relationships, negotiated purchase contracts for Todd.
- Purchased Todd's first computer network, survived a software virus, created task force for ongoing development and planning for conflicting interdepartmental priorities.
- Chaired national committee that coordinated shutdown of Todd's centralized data processing center, designed severance pay plan for terminated employees, identified data base needs for each local office, negotiated purchase and design of custom, locally operated software, set up national training seminars to implement use of new software.
- Developed computerized systems while working with MIS personnel, micros and mainframes. Communicate comfortably in technical conversations.
- Served on Todd's national finance committee that ultimately reduced the national budget by 150%.
- Have implemented complete accounting systems for four companies. Each included integrated forecasting models; one involved a new standard cost system; a second included a job cost system, a third included a time/billing tracking system.
- Two new accounting systems were tied to acquisitions by Fortune 500 companies - Compute!, owned by American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.; Compo-Cast, a manufacturing division of The Stanley Works.
- Used blue prints extensively to bid fixed and cost plus contracts with the U. S. Army for Alberox Corporation
- Developed a cash mobilization program with bank to accelerate cash flow, minimize bank charges and strengthen internal control for Compute!.
- Have been issued clean audit opinions without the need for a single adjustment by Peat Marwick Mitchell, Ernst and Whinney, Arthur Andersen & Co. and the Stanley Works internal audit department.
- Taught college level accounting courses as an adjunct instructor. Principles of Accounting at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1979), and Intermediate Level III Accounting at High Point University (1995).
